FR. BRIAN PHELPS
|
When Fr. Brian was in high school, a teacher approached him once about the idea of becoming a priest. He politely declined and continued with his plan to attend college and join the workplace, but as he began working for schools and coaching, he began to feel as though he wasn't in the right place: he didn't feel fulfilled. He began to pray more, specifically the Rosary, and asked God what He wanted of him. He ended up at a new job, working just three blocks from the Vocations Office. He would arrive to work an hour early, walk down to the Vocations Office for a meeting, then return in time to clock in at work.
There were three moments that Fr. Brian remembers clearly during his discernment of the priesthood:
Fr. Brian was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio. He has two brothers, three nephews and one niece, all of whom he loves to spend quality time with. He also enjoys sports, movies and books.

There were three moments that Fr. Brian remembers clearly during his discernment of the priesthood:
- He attended a welcome weekend at the seminary and felt a bit of peace that he had never felt before - he felt like he was at home.
- He attended the funeral of a former chaplain of his high school where 6,000 were in attendance. He remembers his mother saying that she noticed a change in him after that day.
- He was in the saw room at his job at an art gallery and was cutting frames for an order. While working, he was praying and finally said "You got me. I will be a priest." As soon as he said that, he felt like roses were being showered over him and he could only smell roses. When he didn't know what to think of it, he asked the man next to him if he could smell it and he replied that he only smelled sawdust.
